Danish at the Museo Atlantico!

Rune and Simon dive the Museo Atlantico!

Rune exploring the dive sites in Puerto Del Carmen, Lanzarote, Canary Islands

Last weekend, we were visited by 2 young Danes, Rune and Simon, wanting to discover the wonders of the Museo Atlantico in Lanzarote! Simon was already a qualified PADI open water diver, so he could dive the underwater museum no problems! But Rune had only been snorkelling before and unfortunately the museum is too deep to be seen from the surface. So this meant that he would first need to pass a scuba diving course before he could visit the first underwater museum in Europe.

So that he could qualify quickly he choose to take the PADI Scuba Diver course which allowed him to become a certified diver in 2 days and to dive to 12 metres with a PADI professional diver - perfect for diving at the Museo Atlantico as the statues are at 12 - 14 metres! So he could practice his buoyancy control swimming over them!

Rune spent his first half day in the classroom learning about all things scuba diving by watching the PADI video and reading the PADI open water manual! When it was time for the quick quizzes he flew through these scoring an amazing 29 out of 30!! Well done!! As his instructor we knew that if he started like this we knew he would flew through the confined water and open water dives with no problems!!

On Wednesday morning we continued his PADI scuba diver course by jumping into the water for confined water dives 1, 2 & 3. Playa Chica is perfect for these dives as it is a protected environment. His PADI instructor Boris showed him the skills and got him to copy them until he was comfortable performing them - which he did with perfect mastery!

Simon came to join us for the PADI open water dives 1 and 2! He even chose to join in for the exercises as a quick refresh of his skills! (After 2 years out of the water it's always great to refresh your skills before diving!)

We then headed off along the reef of Puerto Del Carmen, we slowing descended down to 12 metres. Along the way we saw cuttlefish, 2 seahorses and a shoal of barracuda overlooking us during the second part of the dive!Rune did a fantastic job during his course and will have no problems when he decides to complete the final day and upgrade to PADI open water diver in the future!

We hope to see Rune and Simon again in the Canaries in the future to explore more of the dive sites and the marine life that Puerto Del Carmen, Lanzarote has to offer!
