11 Reasons to Visit Lanzarote

If you've never been on holiday to Lanzarote before, you are missing out! Read on and let us explain Just 11 reasons why you should visit lanzarote!

(Trust us there are way more than 11 but we’ve just picked some of our favourites!)

1. The Climate

Lanzarote is part of the Canary Islands just 125km off the North coast of Africa. Thanks to this it has a sub-tropical climate which means we have a lot of sunshine, not too much rain and nice temperatures all year!

2. Location, Location, Location

Lanzarote is just a 4-5 hour flight from most of Europe. Meaning you can get a short haul flight and get long haul weather!

3. Out of this world lunar landscapes

One of our personal recommendations is to hire a car and explore the island. Lanzarote is full of stunning volcanic landscapes. You can head up to Timanfaya National Parque and grab a coach tour. Alternatively you can head out on a hike and climb to the top of Caldera Blanca. Trust us when we say the panoramic views of the National Park and Famara cliff tops when you reach the top of the crater are epic!

4. Value for Money

Lanzarote has a huge range of accommodation, restaurants, bars, excursions, car hires and airport transfers. You can chose how much you want to spend on your holiday to Lanzarote. Whether you want to do a package holiday or organise everything separately. Pick from 5* luxury hotels such as The Fariones Hotel and La Isla y El Mar. Alternatively if you would prefer to book a self catering apartment and spend your days at the beach you have plenty of options! Costa Volcan Spa, San Francisco II, Fariones apartments are just some of the options that are less than 5 minutes walk from Manta Dive Centre

5. Stunning beaches

If you are looking for the perfect beach holiday, Lanzarote should be top of your list. Lanzarote is home to a vast array of beaches from golden sands to unique black volcanic sand beaches. Papagayo beach is one of the most popular golden sand beaches located in Playa Blanca and is one not to be missed. Also when you visit Lanzarote you should visit Playa Grande in Puerto Del Carmen. The perfect beach for sunbathing or a nice stroll, it’s over 1km long! Don’t forget to take your mask and snorkel as the sea is teeming with colourful fish!

6. Indulge in the local Canarian cuisine

Lanzarote is known for it’s seafood cuisine. Some of the local dishes that we recommend trying are the Gambas al Ajillo, (Prawns in garlic), Queso frito con mermalada (Fried cheese with jam) and Papas arrugadas (Canarian potatos).

7. Water sports heaven

Choose from several exhilarating water sports. Puerto Del Carmen is home to the best scuba diving on Lanzarote and we are located just 100 metres from it! There is also the underwater museum in Playa Blanca which is a great diving experience for all diving levels including beginners. If you want to try surfing or kite surfing head over to Famara. For lessons we recommend getting in contact with Paul at LavaFlow.  Or if you fancy giving jet skiing a go head to Playa Chica.

8. Incredible sunrises and sunsets

Lanzarote has the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets all year round. September is a particularly good time of year to visit Lanzarote and see the stunning hues at sunset. Our favourite places to watch the sunrise is along the Avenida de Las Playas. Many of times we have been out for our morning run and had to stop every 2 minutes to capture the picturesque moment! For sunset we would definitely recommend jumping in the car and heading to El Golfo in the south of the island. You can watch the sun sinking into the sea.

9. Family friendly resorts

Puerto Del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise are the main resorts in Lanzarote and are perfect for family holidays. There are many things to do across the island for families including doing a try dive as a family, taking a dive on the Submarine Safari for the little ones, visiting AquaLava water park or how about visiting Lanzarote a Caballo to see the camels. Also there are so many safe beaches to take the children too, Playa Chica is perfect for a paddle and a snorkel!

10. Unobstructed Island Views

There are 2 view points in particular that we recommend checking out while you visit Lanzarote. Mirador Del Río, from here you can see the whole of La Graciosa and if you go on a clear day you may even be able to see La Alegranza too! In the South we recommend driving through Femes and parking up, walking to behind the church and you get the most incredible views of Fuerteventura and Los Lobos.

11. Hiking

One of the positive things to have come out of the dreaded C is all this free time that we have been lucky enough to spend together as a family. During the past year we have been exploring Lanzarote like we never have before and the best thing we have discovered is the awesome hiking trails. Some of our favourites have been hiking up to Caldera Blanca, hiking into Volcan el Cuevo, hiking around Haría, including the secret forest and also up to the dam in Mala. The views across the island are stunning! When you visit Lanzarote we definitely recommend including a day for hiking!
