Follow Abi’s journey as she becomes a PADI Divemaster!
Abi has joined us here at Manta Diving Lanzarote for 6 weeks. On her first day she had never been scuba diving before. By the time she finishes she will be a PADI Divemaster! Abi is in training to become a stunt double and this is one of her prerequisites.
Before arriving in Lanzarote Abi had completed the online training for the PADI open water course. So on her first day it was learning how to use the equipment and then time for her first dive in Playa Chica with her PADI instructor George. George took her through the confined dives and Abi was a natural. A little hesitant with removing the mask but after a couple of attempts she was back flying through the skills. Before no time it was time to start with the open water dives. Time to explore Playa Chica and the dive sites it has to offer! On her first dive she was lucky enough to swim alongside an angel shark!
Towards the end of the week Abi jumped in for her first dive with PADI instructor Rachel. This dive was an underwater photo shoot and Abi was the model! Planning on testing out our new macro lens and red filter for our GoPro. At the same time Abi was learning the route towards the Blue Hole – as she will be mapping it as part of her PADI Divemaster Course. During the dive they saw lots! Several octopus, seahorses, huge grouper and Abi even spotted her first seahorse!
During the next 6 weeks Abi will be diving several times a day, spending as much time underwater as possible. Allowing her time to perfect her buoyancy, gaining confidence and learning her way round the dive sites and most importantly see the marine life in Lanzarote! By the end of her first week she had already logged over 7 hours underwater, passed her PADI open water course and her PADI Advanced open water course and is now starting with her Emergency First Response Course! We are having a lot of fun teaching Abi to dive and showing her why Lanzarote is so awesome!
Check back next week to find out how she is getting on…
